Of course the official language is Thai… I’m guessing you don’t speak Thai so don’t worry, english is widely spoken across the country

Official currency in Thailand

Money, money, money

The main currency in Thailand is Baht (THB). 1 euro is about 35.81 THB.

If you need to change your money, don’t worry there are many exchange offices in the big cities. But do not exchange your money to people offering Baht in the streets, most of the time they give out fake money ! 

Visa and Mastercard credit/debit card are accepted throughout the country.

Don’t forget to call your banker and tell them you’ll be using your card abroad, otherwise they might think it is fraudulent activity and block your card ! 

Traveling in Thailand

Is the steering wheel on the left or right ?

To get around in Thailand, renting a car is probably the best idea if you want to be free.
For any car rental, you must be at least 21 years old, hold a driving license (sometimes the international permit can be requested) and have a credit card.

And for those who were wondering on which side the sterling wheel is ? Well it’s on the right side of the car and people drive on the left side of the road, so most of you will need a little adjustment time !

Overall cost of a trip to Thailand

Transportation :

• For buses you can find different categories :
  – Government buses without air conditioning for short trips and with air conditioning for long journeys.
  – Private buses are more comfortable but more expensive.
• Taxis are numerous and cheap but be careful that they put their meter well, at the risk of paying double or triple the price of the race.
• For trains, you will have to choose between 3 different classes :
  – The 1st class is rather expensive but air-conditioned.
  – For the 2nd class it’s ventilated or has air conditioning.
  – The 3rd class is not recommended especially for long journeys.
• Renting a car will be around 150 € a week. Feel free to compare international agencies.
  For any car rental, the price of a liter of petrol is about 1.38 €.

Accommodation :

• In the north of the country, you can find a double room in high season from € 5 and up to € 90 per night.
• In the south of the country, the islands or the big cities, the prices will be between 30 € and 150 € in high season for a double room.

Catering : 

• To eat, count between 2 € and 23 € from north to south for a complete meal without drink.

Tips to travelers

• When leaving your country, remember to put your phone in airplane mode and reactivate it only when you have free wifi. This will avoid the extra costs for overtaking the package. If not, take an old phone and buy a SIM card on the spot.
• Remember to bring a mosquito spray if you do not want to end up eating by these small insects.
• Avoid eating raw food.
• Respect the Thai culture: do not touch the head of a local person or even point foot anyone and let alone Buddha at the risk of getting you into trouble.
