In Morocco, we speak Arabic, but beware, not any Arabic ! Moroccan Arabic is the official language of the country with French, but most locals also speak Berber.

Official currency in Morocco
Money, money, money
The main currency in Morocco is the Moroccan Dirham (MAD). 1 euro is about 10,84 MAD / 1USD : 9,64 MAD / 1GBP : 12,01 MAD / 1CAD : 7,30 MAD.
It is better if you withdraw dirhams before leaving or you go to a foreign exchange office when you arrive. Cash withdrawals or card payments include fees : 2% for withdrawals and 3 to 3.5% for card payments.
The credit / debit card (and especially the visa) is accepted in some restaurants, shops and petrol stations, as well as in most hotels.
Don’t forget to call your banker and tell them you’ll be using your card abroad, otherwise they might think it is fraudulent activity and block your card !
Traveling in Morocco
Is the steering wheel on the left or right ?
The bus is a good solution for traveling in Morocco because the lines serve almost the whole country, even the most remote places ! However, they are often loaded, so it will be necessary to arrive in advance to have a place. A supplement will be asked if you have luggage, and it will be higher if your luggage weighs more than 10kg / 22 lbs. Do not forget your ticket or receipt, because checks are very common on buses.
The three main bus companies in Morocco are CTM, Supratours and SATAS.
If you are in Morocco in the middle of the summer, we advise you to do as the locals : take the bus early in the morning, when it is still a bearable heat, and especially do not forget your bottle of water !
About a car rental ?
The best way to discover Morocco is to rent a car, you will be completely free, at ease and with air conditioning ! You will find all the major car rental companies in Morocco, but you can also go through local agencies. It is still better to rent your car over the Internet.
For this, you must be at least 21 years old, but you will have an additional tax, this one is removed from the moment you are over 25 years old. And beware, in some cases, rental agencies refuse to rent to drivers over 75 years. Regarding the permit, the international is valid.
Also, be aware that a car rented in Morocco remains in Morocco, you can not take a tour by neighboring countries. In addition, stay on the paved roads because from the moment you ride on tracks with your rental car, insurance no longer covers you.
Be careful driving in the big cities, it can get complicated quickly, take your time, drive at your own pace, and pay attention to everything around you : cars that deviate and change direction without warning. - For the car rental, the average price is 21 € / day (23,3 USD / 18,7 GBP / 30,8 CAD. Also know that the price of a liter (0,26 gal) of gas is about 0.95 € / 1,05 USD / 0,85 GBP / 1,40 CAD .
- For the taxi, the average price for 1 km / 0,62 mile is about 0.55 € / 0,61 USD / 0,49 GBP / 0,80 CAD.

Tips to travelers
- Do not drink water that has not been opened in front of you and do not drink tap water.
- Avoid eating raw fruits and vegetables, especially without knowing hygiene conditions beforehand.
- Think of the tip or “bakchich” which is very present in the local culture, it represents between 10% and 15% of the total amount of a meal in the restaurant, or of a taxi ride for example.
- Sunscreen and water must be your best friends during your trip to Morocco.
- Cover your shoulders and legs as you walk around medinas and villages to respect local culture and belief.
- If you want to try henna, be careful, because some henna contain PPD (paraphenylene diamine), which can cause important allergic reactions.
- If you drive, be careful, police checks are very frequent, so pay attention to speed limits, especially at the entrance of villages.
