We speak Romanian !
So you probably know that the official language is Romanian … What you didn’t take Romanian in high school ? No worries, english is widely spoken across the country.
Romanian 101 :
The official currency is the Romanian leu, called RON. Better get a money converter on your phone so you can manage your expenses more easily.
Credit/Debit cards are accepted in most hotels, resturants, stores and gas stations. You will find trustworthy exchange offices in big cities, prefer these to those you fill find in airports. Be sure to warn your bank that you are traveling so that they won’t block your card for suspect abroad transactions.
Traveling in Romania is best by bus but if you want more independence better rent a car. It is ideal to rent your car before arrival, dont forget to check the contract clauses and condition of the tires when getting the car. You will need a valid driver’s licence / International Driving Permit (for EU citizen your usual licence is enough).
CAUTION : Roads are not always in the best condition. So be sure to get an insurance. Also, it is very important to get a real road map and not just count on your GPS because service could fail you and you would be lost without a map ! Plus traffic signs may be missing.
If you were wondering what side the steering wheel is on, it’s on the left side and Romanians drive on the right side of the road.
Thanks for all the information but how much will this actually cost ?
